Located at an average altitude of 1147 meters, Bixessarri is the last village of Andorra in the CG-6 road before arriving at the pene-encave of Os de civís, in Spanish territory.
Likewise, this small village in the northeast of the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria is also one of the least populated in the Principality, with a population that, despite having increased slightly in recent years, does not exceed 60 people. Specifically, according to the Department of Statistics of the Government of Andorra, the population of Bixessarri at the end of 2017 was of 56 people, 12 more than in 2013.
¿Bixessarri o Bissisarri?
Either because of the extension or the complicated pronunciation, the word Bixessarri is, without a doubt, a name, from the start, rather curious. Indeed, behind this singularity, which a priori may seem anecdotal, there is an interesting toponym debate. Thus, as a result of the doubts generated by the different variants of pronunciation, the Comú de Sant Julià de Lòria (local government) proposed to the Toponymy Commission of Andorra the option Bissisarri, while the inhabitants of the town chose the option of Bixessarri, a name that has remained until today.
Apart from this peculiarity, the village of Bixessarri stands out for its incredible natural surroundings, typical of a high mountain village. An extremely calm environment that, without a doubt, makes you disconnect, with idyllic stone streets that snake between exclusive properties perfectly integrated in the space.
Although the peace and tranquility of Bixessarri is one of the great attractions, another of the aspects that this small Andorran village has is the excellent location. . In this way, despite being perfectly isolated from the bustle that exists in other more populated areas of Andorra, Bixessarri is just over 7 km away from the centre of Sant Julià de Lòria or, in other words, just over 10 minutes by car.
Bixessarri also has a small children's playground, right at the entrance of the village, where you can spend a good time with the little ones in an environment surrounded by nature and very close to the Os River.
